Evaluation Unit 6

Preliminary Primary Task
During this task we were asked to take few photos for or chosen style. I have decided to take portrait photos around college. This wasn't a very good idea as all photos look the same even though I have used few different people, but the background is the same and I don't like this idea in location photos.

Next research task, has also helped me to get a lot of new ideas and inspirations most of them that I have stuck to till the end of the project, whereas some of the ideas I have changed or developed.

The sun task has helped me to understand how I can use sun in my photoshoots. Whereas in the still life task I had to use my imagination as well as creativity.

I have stuck to my style throughout the whole project, I have done fashion as well as portraiture. I have used digital and a little bit of film, developing the photos in darkroom. I have also used studio as well as different kinds of locations which has developed my communication skills with other people. During this project I have started working with RAW files on Photoshop, and I have came to a conclution that it's a lot easier in terma of editing if you get used to it. I have also developed my Photoshop skills by playing around with making the skin look soft, etc. I have also reminded my self how to do photomontages, colour popping, feathering the photos etc. Which was very useful.

My final 8 photos show clearly what I wanted to show. They are one of my best photos, on some of them I have also shoes my editing skills (photomontages) etc. I am happy about the pictures.

If I would have the opportunity to do this project again I would think about the timing more carefully. The timing for photoshoots and editing the images as well as evaluating them was fine, but I have left all of the other tasks for the last minute, next time I would to them straight away.

Location Photo Shoots

First Location Photo Shoot

Plan- For my first location photo shoot, I want to take picture of a teenage girl. It will be on 4th of April, at around 12pm. I am planning to do the photo shoot at Lister park in Bradford. We will get there by bus from town.  I have picked this place as it's a big park and there are few places to pick from to take photos. I will ask my model to do her own make up and wear what ever she wants, as it's only the first one and I only really want to see what it's like to work with people that I don't really know. I will take all kinds of photos - full person, with a nice background, portraits etc.

Contact prints-

This is my first contact print of all of the edited photos, from my first location photo shoot, which was more of a research to see what is it like to work with model as I don't have much experience in this. I am happy with my three final photos from this photo shoot, as I thought it would be a lot harder, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The weather wasn't so good, therefore the white sky in my opinion really affects most of the photos from this shoot. I also had a trouble with setting up my white balance. Working with this model was alright, she was getting more and more comfortable in front of the camera throughout the photo shoot. For my next location photo shoot I want to choose a different park again, and work with someone else, to see the difference, as I want to try an experiment and see what is it like to work with different kind of girls. Also for my next photo shoot I will wait for a better weather and see if this will affect the photos a lot.

Second Location Photo Shoot

Plan- On a sunny weekend, I want to take my sister out for my second photo shoot, to one of the parks in Bradford. This time I have picked Peel Park. We will get ready in the afternoon, and go as soon as possible. She doesn't need any make up, her hair will be down and she will wear comfortable clothes, as we need to travel by bus to get to the park. I want to take as many photos as I will be able to all around the park. So my plan is to walk around the park, and if I see an interesting place where I can take a picture I will do it. I want to take some pose photos, as well as a lot of portraiture ones.

Photos- Zuzanna

This is my first photo, from the second location photo shoot. It's one of my favourite so far. I like the composition of the photo, even though I have cut her jacket of the frame a little but at the bottom, the photo is straight and there is a lot of space left at the top, as I have recently seem to make these two mistakes very often. I really like her pose as she seems relaxed and she's also smiling. Her hair is covering a little bit of her face and I think that's a positive not a negative thing, as it does, look interesting in my opinion. I also like the sun on her hair. The background of the photo is not the most interesting one but it's nicely divided into three sections, from path way going to the grass and then the bushes.

My next photo from my second location photo shoot is a picture of my sister done from eye level angle while she was sat down. I have asked her to look somewhere else instead of directly into the camera to make this photo look realistic and I also wanted to make her look comfortable, by the way she's sat. The background of this photo is nothing interesting, it's simple but it's not distracting. I have done a little bit of editing by increasing the exposure and brightness.

This is my last photo that I have picked from the photo shoot with Zuzanna. I Have decided to take this photo in portrait format, it has been done from a weird, in my opinion angle, as I have been standing on stairs and she's right at the top of them, but it looks effective. It was a little bit hard to set my camera up because the sun was very strong. I wanted to make sure that my model looks alright with the settings that I was setting up and I wasn't really bothered about the background as I have been shooting in RAW which meant I will be able to play around more in detail after in Photoshop. I like the pose of my model, I think it looks really good and it also kind of present really well the clothing that she's wearing as we can see everything clearly. I also really like the tree's in the background as it's not blank and there's something happening but because of the depth of field it doesn't matter if there's a lot happening in the background because my model is still the first thing you look at while looking at the picture. As I have said before it was hard to get the setting's right and because I was concentrating on my model I have over exposed the sky, it was nice and blue but it came out completely white. I had to change this in Photoshop, but because I was shooting in RAW it was very easy for me to do. All I did was open the RAW file and I have used adjustment brush with decreasing the exposure to go over the sky, which made it darker (blue).

Contact prints-

This is my next contact print from the second location photo shoot of all edited images. Overall, I'm happy about this photo shoot. I really like the fact we had a nice weather, and we were able to take a lot of photos out in location. Most of the things went very well - as planned. It was defiantly a better photo shoot than my previous one, The only one thing that didn't went well as planned was the poses of my model, as I had a lot of them planned but there was a lot of people around the park and my model felt a little bit shy and uncomfortable with posing. I really like the pictures from this shoot and I think there are about 4 or 5 really good ones. During my next photo shoot I want to pick a completely different location and this time think more about the style of my next model.

Third Location Photo Shoot

Plan- For my next photo shoot I want to use a different person again. I am planning to do this photo shoot on  the 22nd of April, at about 1pm. The place that I want to do this photo shoot is Little Germany in town, therefore we are going to meet in town and walk up to Little Germany. I like this place as there are a lot of small roads with interesting architecture and I hope I will get some interesting photos from this photo shoot. I will ask my model to dress nicely and bring two pairs of shoes, as I have seen high heels always looks better on photos in the place that we are planning to go.

Photos- Karolina

This is my first chosen photo from my third location photo shoot. I have decided to take this photo is a portrait format from an eye level perspective. I really like the pose of the model and the fact that the doors match my model's t-shirt. I have done a little bit of editing, by straightening the photo a little bit and adding contrast to it as, overall I am happy with this photo,

This is my second picture from this location photo shoot with my model Karolina. This photo has been done from low angle, as we were taking this photo on a small hill, and I was standing at the bottom and my model was standing a little bit further up. I also really like the lighting on this photo, as the background in nicely light up.

This is my last chosen photo from the photo shoot with Karolina. I really like this photo, and it's definitely one of my favourite ones so far. This photo has been done from an eye level perspective, in the portrait format. The composition of the photo in my opinion is interesting as my model which is the main subject of the photo is composed on the side but it looks very effective. My model's pose also look really nice and natural, as she's leaning on the wall with one of her legs up a little bit also on the wall, looking straight to the camera. I have been using a natural light only, as we had a good weather and I was happy about it. I also really liked the location that we have found in Little Germany, the brick wall looked really nice on all of the photos that I took there. I haven't done much editing except adding a little bit of contrast.

Contact prints-

All photos on this contact print are edited photos from my third location photo shoot. Overall, I think this is my favourite shoot so far. I am really happy as each photo shoot that I do is better than the previous one. I am also happy that I have decided to pick a different location for this photo shoot as we had a lot of more interesting places to take pictures in. The weather was also very good, and I really like the final outcome of the photos.

Fourth Location Photo Shoot

Plan- I would like to use the opportunity of going on a college trip to Hawes in Yorkshire Dales, on the 23rd and 24th of April to take some fashion/portrait photos of one of my class friend. I'm not sure what to expect there, therefore I will take a lot of pictures of my model while we're there with beautiful views etc.

This is my second picture from this photo shoot. It's a portrait that I really like as it has been done in the natural light. I have done this photo using 50 mm lens therefore the photo looks sharp and it's in a very good quality. We can't see any background or any surrounding area, because of depth of field, but I really like this effect. I have edited this picture by opening the RAW file and using adjustment brush to soften her face by decreasing the clarity and increasing the exposure.

My last chosen photo from this photo shoot. I like the composition of this photo, because my model is at one side of the photo and on the other side we can see a long road, this makes us want to look all over the photo, because it's eye-catching. I really like the location and the surrounding on this photo. The pose of my model looks natural and very interesting.

Contact prints-

This is my next contact print from my next location photo shoot from the college trip to Hawes in Yorkshire Dales, these are only the edited pictures. I am happy about the photo I took but I should have done more of them, as we were there for two days. The weather was very different, as it was sunny and after five minutes it was raining during the second day, it was also very windy which affected the settings on the camera and also my models hair was on her face all the time. We were also in a rush as we were in a group and couldn't stop for a long time in the place that we liked to take photos.
